Where can I recycle Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs on Oahu? (aka CFL)

A green-minded friend of mine, sent me an email today that wanted to know where to recycle CFL’s bulbs here on Oahu?  The interesting this about “Internet Patty” is that she can usually find the information, but when I read her email, I realized I also had NO IDEA where to recycle the CFL bulbs.

Quick answer….Your local Home Depot & Lowe’s Home Improvement stores both offer CFL recycling.

From www.Opala.org: Fluorescent Tubes and CFLs (compact fluorescent lights)
Fluorescent Tubes and CFLs can be brought in to the City’s Household Hazardous Waste bi-monthly event by appointment. Householders may also wrap bulbs in newspaper and dispose of with your regular household rubbish. CFLs only (no tubes) may be taken to the Returns Desk at any Home Depot on Oahu. Businesses must consult the State Department of Health at 586-4226 for disposal guidelines as these bulbs qualify as a universal waste.
