Let’s go Paddling!!!

Aloha Paddlers!

We’ve got a couple of events to choose from this coming Saturday, Oct. 6 we’ll have one group doing a make-up paddle from Heeia Pier in Kaneohe to Kualoa Beach park (Chinaman’s Hat).

It’s a 7 mile paddle, lead by Terry,  including a stop at the sand bar and Kepapa Island, a bird sanctuary on the outside of the reef that has refreshing tidal pool area that we’ll relax and rest up in.  This is a great paddle to break in new paddlers as if the conditions are mellow we can go outside the reef from the middle of the bay to Chinamans hat, and if there is a swell that’s creating a lot of breaking waves on the reef, we can stay inside the reef in protected water on the way there.

We’ll be meeting at the canoe Halau at Heeia boat harbor at 8:00 AM, the shuttle drivers will leave at 8:20, and we’ll plan on putting in at 9:15 AM with a finish time between noon and 1 pm.

For those of you looking for a paddle but a bit of a shorter jaunt, a partner of our club, All Things Oahu, is doing  a shorter version, lead by Phoung,  leaving from Waiahole Beach Park in Kaneohe Bay about 7:30 and doing a 3 mile relaxed paddle to Kualoa Park, where they’ll set up the Hibachis and welcome the crew doing the longer paddle from Heeia, so, if you’d like to enjoy a bit of paddling  fun, frivolity and food,  bring something to grill and after the paddle we’ll relax for a while and swap paddling tales.  Should be a fun day and at this stage conditions look like light wind and small waves.  Perfect for  a relaxing paddle!!

For more info on both of these paddles, go to www.meetup.com and find the Hua Iki kayak club and you’ll get all the details!!

Then the following weekend, Oct.13 we’ll be doing Yokohama to Makaha and on the 21st, we’ll try Kaena Pt. for the 2nd time – first try was canceled due to high surf.  Lock these dates up if you want to do these routes, and we’ll see you there!!
